El inventor del sistema de refrigeraci\u00f3n mec\u00e1nica y armador del buque, el ingeniero Charles Tellier, fue acompa\u00f1ado por dos uruguayos que colaboraron en este proyecto: Francisco Lecocq y Federico Nin Reyes.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Junta de INAC instaur\u00f3 esta fecha por resoluci\u00f3n en la d\u00e9cada de los 80, con el fin de que fuera un d\u00eda de difusi\u00f3n de la importancia de la carne en la dieta humana. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Haciendo un poco de historia, la primera planta frigor\u00edfica se establece en el Cerro en el a\u00f1o 1902 y se llam\u00f3 La Frigor\u00edfica Uruguaya. En 1911 el saladero de Cibils es adquirido por la C\u00eda. Swift, de Chicago.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En 1915 se funda el frigor\u00edfico Artigas en el barrio del Cerro y en 1924 la S.A Frigor\u00edfico Anglo adquiere la planta de Liebig en la ciudad de Fray Bentos.
